Changing locale in Zoom Clients

From Zoom 7.3.1 onwards, Zoom supports localization in the German language, in addition to the previously existing Spanish and French language support.

Check the following sections for configuring the required locales on the various client applications.

You should set up the locale on the servers to effectively and seamlessly use it on the clients. Follow Locale setup on servers for details.

Desktop apps

The easiest way to update the Zoom clients to switch to a different locale is via the Asset Browser. Please see the following section for details. Note that using this mechanism, all the client applications running from that particular machine user account will be switched to the new locale. This includes the Asset Browser, of course, and also the Z-menu, the Adobe plugins as well as the command-line interface (“zm” commands).

Asset Browser, Z-icon, and zm commands

From Zoom 5.2 onwards, you can change the locale in Zoom’s Asset Browser and Z-menu. Follow these steps to change the locale:

  1. Open Asset Browser.
  2. Click Settings from the user menu options in the top right corner.
    Setting_Dialog
  3. Select a new value from the Current Locale drop-down list box.
  4. Click Save.
  5. Restart the Asset Browser after changing the locale. Also, to see this locale change in the Z-menu, you should choose Restart Clientproxy from the Z-menu.

Zoom Adobe Plugins

Changing the locale as mentioned in the above section will take care of loading the appropriate language menu options for the Adobe Zoom plugin as well. However, note that the Adobe application itself must be switched explicitly to the desired language first for a seamless experience.

Web apps

From Zoom 7.3.1 onwards, the Web Client is ready to use English and German locale. For the Web Asset Browser, you need to change the locale from within its Settings dialog, similar to the Asset Browser.

For the web apps to use a new locale seamlessly, you need to set up the locale for the Preview Server first.

Web Client

From Zoom 7.3.1 onwards, whenever you open Web Client login page, you will be shown option to change the locale in which to view and use the Web Client, right below the sign-in box.

Click on your desired locale to start using Web Client in that locale.

To change the language option again, log out of the Web Client to see the login page again. At the login page, you can choose another language.

Web Asset Browser

Follow the same instructions as the desktop Visual Asset Browser, in the web-based version of the application as well. But, the preview server must also be configured to switch to the desired language/locale. Missing either of the steps may result in the UI showing a mix of more than one language.

Choose the locale from Current Locale dropdown box in the Settings dialog. Click Save to start using the chosen locale.
