Zoom 7.3 Release Notes

7.3-RELEASE.137

Release Date: 1st July 2019

Evolphin Zoom 7.3.0-RELEASE.137 is a full release consisting of Linux and Windows servers, and Windows and Mac clients.

New Features

  • VideoFX 2.0: VideoFX module has been brought into the core Zoom product, similar to VideoLX. The configuration for this module will now be done via the Web Management Console. Thus, a complex video ingest solution has been made available out of the box, and its configuration no longer requires resources of high technical skills in order to navigate the Perl-scripts deployment. In addition to this overhaul, several issues from the previous VideoFX release have also been fixed.
  • Both VideoLX and VideoFX modules now support image sequence and camera card ingests.
  • VideoLX and VideoFX modules support a better dashboard experience with more intuitive progress and error reporting. Transcoding jobs can now be easily scheduled or resubmitted.
  • Multi-Tiered Archive: Beyond the already existing archive of direct-ingest assets to configured disk locations, we now have the ability to further move the assets to different storage – which could be a slower / inexpensive NAS or a cloud entity like S3. In addition, this module is also capable of archiving the proxy assets and the image-sequences (the external assets) to the secondary tiers as well. An ancillary service, called the Job Hub, is introduced with this release which carries out the archive/restore operations.
  • Adobe CC2019 Support: Zoom 7.3 is certified with CC2019.
  • Export in Adobe apps: Zoom Adobe plugin now also supports exporting from Adobe Illustrator.
  • Auto-Retirement Service: A new feature has been added using which it is possible to periodically archive the assets automatically. Admins can define rules based on Zoom paths, file sizes, file types, etc and their inactivity intervals based on which the Zoom server decides which assets become eligible for auto-retirement.

Usability Enhancements

  • Web Client Enhancements:
    • Assets added to a collection are saved to a predefined location for the collection within Zoom.
    • Internal Zoom users can now view assets in a collection even if they do not have access to the project vault in Zoom as per their project or role assignment.
    • Super admins can now change the owner of a collection.
    • Web Client may now be configured to trigger email notifications to specific user groups upon a change in assets in a collection.
    • Web Client now supports browsing of folders in the Asset tab.
    • Assets can now be searched using Advance Search in the Web Client.
  • Plugin Enhancements:
    • Performance improvements have been implemented for fetching links while syncing project asset with links while searching, and while switching resolutions for hires assets.
    • Search suggestions have been improved. Auto suggestions in search to include “contains with” and “starts with” both suggestions.
    • The search panel has been merged within the Browse tab.
    • Support for multiple preview servers has been added and seamless switching between SSL and non-SSL has been implemented.
    • Separate log files have been added for plugin UI, under folder *\.zm\logs\plugins\*.
    • Pagination support has been implemented in the Links Tab and Exported Files Tab on scroll (50 assets per page).
    • Search has been switched to do a global search instead of a structured search; filters can be selected under different categories.
    • More intuitive messaging has been added.
    • A search box has been added to the Links panel so that the user can type ahead and search for links.
    • Support for rendering image sequences from After Effects has been added.
    • New icons are in place now, to define mount, unmount, auto-checkout, checkout, modified assets.
    • A new feature has been introduced to create markers on Adobe Premiere timeline for each comment
    • A new collection page UI has been introduced for the exported files tab.
  • VideoLX 3.0 has a bunch of UI improvements, the ability for image and audio transcoding with their individual placeholders, check-in support from WebVAB and Web Client, option to choose to transcode via VideoFX as well, scheduled transcoding jobs.
  • Security fix added to avert XSS (cross-site scripting) attacks.
  • Zoom now has a new default audio converter for use with VideoLX.
  • When using LDAP settings with Zoom, user information may now be pulled automatically from the LDAP system at a pre-configured frequency and also whenever the LDAP settings are changed in Zoom.
  • Zapier integration has been enhanced with several UI changes; the zap will be made public soon.
  • It is now possible to limit what metadata we want to extract and store in the Zoom Server when assets are ingested. This can be configured via the Metadata Editor in the Web Management Console. In addition to filtering based on the metadata, we could additionally also filter based on the size of the metadata value, or range if it is a date or a number field, etc.
  • Curator configuration has been moved to the Web Management Console now making it easy for admins to manage the service parameters.
  • DRM module shall now send mail notifications of assets that are about to expire. The emails are sent once a day and will contain the list of assets about to expire in the next “n” days. The “n” is configurable.
  • Zoom properties can now be set using the Web Management Console on the Zoom Server for use by the Zoom Clients, instead of creating property files on the Zoom Server to be synchronized with the clients.

Major Fixes

  • In the Web Client, while adding assets to a collection, if a mix of existing and new assets are chosen then these are not removed from the selection when new assets are being browsed for.
  • In the Web Client, Collection Names filter now only matches for exact entries, not other collection names that contain sub-strings of the selected collection name.
  • Web Client users with only Reader permission in Zoom can now share a collection if they have admin rights on a collection.
  • In the Web Client, uploading new assets to a collection is now trackable using a status window accessible from the Collection Detail page and the uploads may also be canceled.
  • While uploading multiple files using the Easy Upload section in the Web Client, if the user deletes the file under processing from the Upload box then the files listed after the deleted file are not skipped from the upload.
  • In the Web Client, height and width are visible for all assets in the Asset Details page now.
  • In the Web Client, the collection name filter on the collections listing page only matches collections matching exact names as selected for it.
  • The latest revision of assets is now shown on the Collection Detail page without reloading the page in the Web Client.
  • Web Client users on a MacBook Pro can now reply to spatial comments on assets in a collection.
  • The assets inside dynamic collections created in the Asset Browser are visible in the Web Client also now.
  • Older dynamic collections that were shared with external users are no longer accessible by those external users. However, these collections can now be accessed by other internal users assigned to that collection.
  • In the Zoom Adobe plugin, collections are now displayed in the Collections list on the Export and Exported Files tabs.
  • In Web Client, if the user chooses to download a zipped file containing assets in low-resolution then the low-resolution zip is downloaded now.
  • Now, the Asset Browser also supports the creation of a new project from a template as available in the Zoom Adobe plugin.
  • In the Zoom Adobe plugin, if a user switches from Home to the Link tab and linked files take some time to load then a progress bar is displayed now.
  • In the Zoom Adobe plugin, a progress bar on a tab does not appear on another tab after the user switches tabs.
  • For Adobe Premiere Pro using Zoom Adobe plugin, no failure message is displayed after successfully exporting a file with a custom default export destination.
  • In Adobe Premiere Pro using Zoom Adobe plugin, check-in dialog appears now when a user tries to sync a new project created from a template that has links.
  • For Adobe Creative apps using Zoom Adobe plugin, the project/document file’s locked status is now refreshed instantly after clicking the Lock/Unlock in the plugin.a
  • For Zoom Adobe plugin, a user is now allowed to check-in linked assets belonging to a project vault where the user only has read permission in Zoom.
  • Hot Folders can now be configured to skip, replace, merge files or abort operation in case of duplicate files. Also, separate logs are now written for each Hot Folder and logging is done in between each run cycle of the Hot Folder, rather than at the end.
  • Updates to settings in the Server Control Panel inside the Web Management Console are now validated in entirety before being saved to the Zoom Server in case of a non-HADR setup.
  • Search and Execute queries were getting always getting executed inside the Zoom server, without getting delegated to the Curator service. This has been fixed now such that the queries run on Curator when it is available.
  • Critical security fixes that surfaced during the security audits and penetration testing have been added.
  • It is now possible to delete unnecessary keywords from the server’s keywords stock. At present this function is only exposed via the CLI as it is an advanced feature.
  • Archive and restore operations were earlier restricted and were not supported on smart-links and smart-link sources. This is now fixed, and the operations are supported on smart-links, smart-copies, and their sources.
  • Creating smart-links from smart-copies is now supported.
  • Native licensing .dll caused server crash randomly in Windows systems. This has been fixed now.

Major Pending Issues

  • In the Asset Browser’s Collection tab, only “Not contains” and “Matches exactly” are working. The user is unable to search based on the other options.
  • Searches on single values for range supporting DRM properties within Asset Browser do not show correct results.
  • When lock settings are set to either Auto Lock On Check-Out or Ask To Lock Before Check-Out in the Asset Browser, the user is unable to check-out folders containing files.
  • From the Asset Browser, an attempt to trigger extended-archive or extended-restore (meaning archive to / restore from secondary storage) on a folder does nothing; it does not implicitly execute the action on all of the child assets. To accomplish this task, it is recommended that the user adds the folder to the cart, and then invoke the desired operation from the cart menu.
  • User is unable to enable archiving and update archive settings at the same time from the Web Management Console.
  • Users can limit the number of characters allowed for each string type metadata field in Zoom using a single setting in the Web Management Console.
  • When attempting to upload multiple files by drag-and-drop into the “Easy Upload” section in the Web Client Home Page, if the upload of any one file is canceled, all files subsequent to that also get paused and the upload stops.
  • If nested collections are created by adding filters to the parent collection, the child collections do not show any results whereas the backing search condition has valid matching results.
  • Randomly, the Web Client app becomes unresponsive and gets stuck in the loading stage particularly during preview generation or file uploads.
  • In Adobe Premiere Pro 2018, multiple selections are not working. Also, the plugin window does not open automatically when the project is opened or the application is launched. Entering search criteria and pressing enter sometimes results in the selection of the file name.
  • Curator crashes when trying to delete Preview Server configured on the settings page.
  • In the Adobe apps, when “Save current preview” is on, while export is attempted, sometimes an error pops up due to a temporary offline link.
  • In the Web Client, at times, the comments change in position when the user is redirected to the comments section from the notification panel. This is especially frequent in very long comments.
  • Downloading sub-clips for MXF files throws an error in the Web Client. As a workaround, either download the sub-clip of an MXF file as an MP4 or update a copy of the Video clipping converter inside Zoom.
  • Multi-image sequences are not generated for tiff and PSD formats from the C4D plugin. This is a limitation by the C4D application itself.
  • “Link fetching failed due to an unknown error” message is displaying while switching proxies if suffix configured in Ingest Rules Setting is different from actual suffix present in the file name.
  • Links are not switching to mid-res although suffix configured in Ingest Rules Setting is the same as actual suffix present in the file name if the user tries to switch proxy for multiple assets having different suffixes in a single operation.
  • Search in plugins fails or gives inconsistent results if the asset name contains special characters like ) ( + [ ] ^ { }.
  • When using the Zoom plugin with Maxon Cinema4D, you need to manually update language folders for the plugin to show correct language strings.
  • Zoom Adobe plugin shows an error when a user tries to create a new project using the project templates and provides backward slashes in their relative path.
  • Users are unable to update the “Allow Multiple” option for metadata fields from the Metadata Editor in the Web Management Console. However, as a workaround, the option allowmultiple may be set to true or false as needed for the metadata fields from the metadataspec.xml inside the /conf directory in the Zoom installation folder.

Minor Pending Issues

  • Metadata values reflecting the archive/restore operation statuses are not getting refreshed automatically in the Asset Browser; the stale data may be confusing.
  • Sometimes, an attempt to add a Preview Server in Curator configuration from the Web Management Console fails initially; reloading the page, and re-adding should help get past this problem.
  • In some cases, searching using the Include All Revisions flag, does not work as expected in the Asset Browser.
  • Export failed after changing the dimensions or DPI in a specific PSD file. This was observed only with one specific file in our QA labs.
  • Curator’s auto-restart is not working.
  • In some sequences, Curator indexing status is not accurate in the Web Management Console.
  • Advanced search in Web Client for asset sizes or dates are not working as expected always.
  • In Web Client, after performing a search if the URL is reloaded, then the search parameters are lost; while this is typically what is expected, it may be useful to preserve settings if the user went into a lot of trouble to construct a complex search query. Similarly, settings, like enable/disable folder view, are also not retained and would be useful to be persisted between logins.
  • In Web Client, adding text boxes is failing to work gracefully under advanced conditions like extremely long texts, resizing of the text window, etc. Straight forward scenarios work fine.
  • When the user adds a keyword data point to the data timeline for a video asset in the Web Client another hierarchy data point is also added to it.
  • Cropping the images in the Web Client ends up cropping the text in the corners in some cases.
  • When redirecting to a video asset inside an expired collection through the notifications panel in the Web Client, the preview for the asset is not available to any user of the collection other than the owner.
  • The handling of the permissions associated with collections is subtly different between the Asset Browser and the Web Client. This causes inconsistencies when the same collection is accessed/edited across both applications.
  • In the Zoom Adobe plugin, if the user makes links with assets that are just imported from the Asset Browser while Curator is running, then no asset ID or thumbnail is displayed for such assets on the Links tab.
  • During check-in for large files in the Zoom Adobe plugin, the check-in progress bar appears to be stuck as it does not show any progress for most of the time taken for checking-in.
  • Asset previews are not working in the Zoom Adobe plugin after the user logs out and then logs into the Z-menu. As a workaround, reload properties in the Zoom Adobe plugin to make the previews work again after re-login.
  • While using the Ping realm, Zoom’s default super admin user can still be used to log into the Web Management Console but not to any client applications.

Adobe Issues

  • While using Zoom Adobe plugin with Adobe apps, dragging and dropping an asset from the Asset Browser to an Adobe app does not link the asset in the current project/document inside that Adobe app. As a workaround, use Adobe AIR 27 that allows dragging and dropping to work in Zoom.
