Zoom 5.5.1 Release Notes

5.5-b10911

Release Date: 15 September 2015

Zoom 5.5.1 is an incremental release of Zoom on top of the 5.5 version, primarily for the support of the Archive module in HADR mode; this also carries some key enhancements and bug fixes. The release includes Linux 64-bit server, Windows 64-bit server, Windows 64-bit client and Mac client builds.

Please note that upon installing this build, you will still see the Zoom version to be displayed as 5.5-b10911. (5.5.1 is but only a moniker used to denote this release)
32-bit Windows clients are no longer supported.
Of the Mac OS versions, Zoom is certified to work against Yosemite and Mavericks only. Older versions are not tested against.

New Features and Enhancements

  • Archive module is now available in HADR mode also. (Understanding HADR Archive)
  • The 3rd-party tool FFMPEG used internally by Zoom has been upgraded to version 2.7.

Major Fixes

  • In Zoom 5.5 there was an issue with log rotation where the most recent entries were not always found in the log file with .0 suffix. This has been resolved now for the server side logs. However for the hot folder logs, the issue is still not fixed.
  • Full-text search engine was required to be launched manually in Zoom 5.5. This has now been resolved, this would start as a service instead and therefore started automatically.
  • Full-text search module was sending spurious mail notifications and dumping error messages in the server log even when not enabled. This has been resolved now.
  • No need to explicitly set the “java.io.tmpdir” variable for video previews to work in the Windows platform. The setting is now implicitly included.
  • There was a random issue where thumbnails would be missing in the list view; this has been fixed.
  • Download of PDF files as images will now work.
  • In French build, certain characters were not getting displayed properly in earlier releases; this is fixed now.
  • When the Asset Browser is used in parallel with other interfaces like command-line client, in some random cases we were seeing errors related to “auth” db locking. This has been resolved to a large extent now.
  • Keyboard short-cuts to create smart-copies from the Asset Browser, was not working across different tabs earlier; this has been fixed now.
  • Sort by “Date” or “Modification Time” in list view of the Asset Browser now works correctly in Spanish locale also.
  • Moving assets from one folder to another from within the Path Navigator panel of the Asset Browser used to fail randomly in previous versions; this has been fixed now.
  • Overlay icons for checked out files now show up correctly in the portfolio view of the Asset Browser without requiring any work-arounds.

Major Pending Issues

  • Multiple mail notifications are sent for archive module operations in HADR mode.
  • In Mac clients, at times, Asset Browser if resized, is not retaining the new coordinates if the focus is switched to another window and then brought back to it
  • Zoom mobile application has not yet been upgraded to work with the 5.5 release; this will be available shortly.
  • Creation of dynamic collections with “search everywhere” option cannot be combined with any additional filters.
  • Flattening removes an asset from collections, workflows, lightboxes; breaks association with existing working copies. Therefore users will have to re-add them to workflows, collections, etc. and also have to check them out to the working copies afresh again.
  • When the locale is set to Spanish, and if we switch back to the English locale then in web-based Asset Browser, some metadata properties still continue to show in Spanish.
  • Links and layers information for an asset checked in from Photoshop are not updated in the Asset Browser under certain circumstances in Mac. This is due to an Adobe limitation, please see the list of issues in a section below.
  • Committing any modifications on a smart-copy file from the plugin fails the first time if the file was never opened in the Asset Browser. On retry, this will get committed successfully.
  • After reverting changes in a Premiere Pro project and then saving, the project still shows as being modified. Here is the FAQ outlining the workaround for this issue.
  • Within the search view of the Asset Browser, collection creation fails if attempted through the menu in the cart or through drag and drop of assets directly into the collection panel; however, the same operations work from the browse view. Also, in the search view, you can still create collections using the “Save” option from the top ribbon inside the search view tab.
  • Currently, during check-in with links, the linked files are checked into the same parent path as the main file. This should be modified so that the hierarchy of the linked files are maintained.
  • The “Render and Import” operation in Cinema 4D, being a potentially time-consuming operation, should have a progress reporting mechanism. But this is missing today.
  • Hot folder configuration UI in the Settings dialog can allow saving the setup even when one of the fields is incorrectly initialized. This happens when someone enters an incorrect value in one field, then continues to edit other fields and enters correct values for them.
  • When creating a smart-copy if any keyword from the source is specifically deselected in the keyword tree of the check-in panel, the smart-copy is expected to not have that keyword assigned to it. However, this de-selection is not honored, and the smart-copy ends up with the keywords of the original source always.
  • In HADR mode, the zoom.properties file does not get replicated to the other servers; need to copy them over manually.
  • In HADR mode, attempting to delete the last workflow metadata does not get replicated to the other servers – this would mean we can never remove ALL of the defined metadata across all servers ever because of this issue.
  • Asset Browser shows inconsistent behavior in drop-down options of “Sort By” if locale is changed.
  • Mandatory metadata form is not popping up on creating smart copy using keyboard short-cuts “CTRL+ALT+C” and “CTRL+ALT+V“.
  • Text file previews do not show the contents until the end of the lines in certain files containing long rows.
  • Automatic de-link of assets happens based on modification time and not last accessed time since settings to determine the last access times for files were found to severely slow down the machine
  • Sort by “Digital Rights Management” of assets in Central Panel is not possible
  • Dates shown in the command line are not in a human-readable format
  • Silent uninstall of Zoom is not supported currently
  • Silent Installation on windows is possible but before it asks for 2 clicks, system restart happens without asking the user
  • Drag and Drop of assets between different tabs is not supported for now
  • Buttons in the Top-Ribbon of the Asset Browser do not have any visual indication as to whether they are enabled or disabled.
  • Thumbnails do not appear for “.FLA” files
  • Assigning a folder to a task in the workflow will not add the folder files to the task
  • When a static sub-collection is created, it will add all of the parent items to the sub-collection.
  • Auto-complete suggestions do not come correctly for filters of system-defined properties i.e File Name, File Type etc
  • In Mac, Thumbnail and Preview for a pdf file format is not available by default;– the lib X11 would have to be installed specifically to make that work
  • In Custom File Format Download, conversion of multi-page pdf to an image is not supported
  • Upload of a single file larger than 4 GB is not possible through the web interface of the Asset Browser. This is primarily because of limitations outside the scope of Zoom.
  • Internet Explorer is not supported in SSL mode for opening Web Interface of Asset Browser as “Not able to connect to server” error message is displayed repeatedly
  • Browse Icon for Keywords that is a shortcut for opening Keyword Browse Window for Advanced Search is not available if IPTC Property – Keyword’s label is changed to Spanish to be displayed in the metadata panel.
  • Randomly, upload of files on the web interface for Asset Browser does not work; no error messages are thrown either.
  • Key-frame metadata is not available in the list and portfolio views of the Asset Browser.

Minor Pending Issues

  • Tooltips are not available in Zoom CC plugins on Mac. This is due to an Adobe limitation, please see listed Adobe issues section below.
  • Plugin panels are not clickable. This seems to be a limitation of HTML extensions. As a workaround, click on any of the app panels (which is not an extension) such that the focus moves out of the open doc and then go back to the extension panel.
  • Some drop-down menus in the Asset Browser like the one in the download dialog do not support selection in response to the ENTER key; they work on mouse clicks.
  • Folder-level invocation of smart-copy creations does not enforce mandatory metadata on the client-side. However, the server will enforce this check and fail the operation if some mandatory properties are empty.
  • Lightbox does not generate high-resolution previews for PDF files when trying to do a visual comparison between two revisions.
  • The default set of metadata properties to be shown in the Asset Browser in the central panel is not preserved when upgrading from 5.3 to 5.5 or higher. Users will have to reconfigure this part.
  • If a workflow is created with the role set to “WebApprover” and there are no users assigned to that role at that point, it does not show an appropriate message. Instead, a bland “internal error” is displayed.
  • While switching between PDF page previews very rapidly, at times the preview shows up empty; on refresh and clicking again, you will be able to see the correct preview.
  • Randomly, if you attempt to open the maximum allowed the number of search/browse tabs in the Asset Browser, then close all of them and try to launch a new tab, it does not work.
  • When viewing previews from the Asset Browser, in some sequences involving toggling to full-screen and resizing using the slider controls, even after exiting from the full-screen mode the scroll bars are visible.
  • Previews of PPT file formats are not working in full-screen mode. The regular mode is working properly.
  • If a folder is selected in the central panel of the Asset Browser, and if new keyword creation is attempted it does not give an appropriate error (that folders cannot have keywords assigned); rather the application freezes over.
  • Clicking on the refresh icon of the Asset Browser continuously in rapid succession will sometimes produce an error with a stack trace reading “ConcurrentModificationException”. This error can be dismissed and ignored, it will not affect any functionality further on. A similar error may also show up when you are trying to remove assets from a collection in quick succession. Again, ignore the error and retry the operation to continue.
  • Zoom Asset Browser is the recommended tool for interfacing with the Zoom server; erstwhile Zoom Repository Browser does not contain support for the latest nuances added to the product.
  • Commit after resolve shows an incorrect error message when the asset in question is locked by some other user before a commit is attempted.
  • If an asset name contains a comma character, then on triggering check-in of that asset from the WC, the asset does not show up as selected in the check-in dialog
  • In the “Commit Trends” section of the web-based admin console, the user selection is not retained when switching between successive pages.
  • The addition of assets to favorites panel from the list view, portfolio view, or path navigator is not possible.
  • Restore threshold value setting from the Server Control Panel requires the input number to be with decimal point without which it is not getting accepted.
  • Asset Browser keyboard shortcut, F2 (Remote Rename) does not work for Mac
  • Asset Browser shows an unintuitive error message when a user with distribute permissions logs in and the default view is set to Browse View
  • Developer Designer role written using Spanish characters is able to delete the assets.
  • In Custom Format for Download through the Web Management Console, while making any format as the default, the complete page is refreshed and navigates to the home page.
  • In the Asset Browser, two files differing only in the case (eg. abc.jpg and abc.JPG) are allowed to be created in the same location.
  • High-Resolution previews for PDF files are not generated in LightBox
  • Adobe Drive Will Not Work with Capitalized Usernames
  • Inconsistency in name of project, if archive/restore or rename of project is attempted.
  • Scrubbing in the timeline of video preview does not work
  • Delink of a manually unlocked file (from Asset Browser) would not be possible
  • If the connection between zoom client and zoom server is lost, an error with stack trace is displayed to the client user
  • The lock released on a file through Asset Browser is not updated in the working copy automatically; this requires an update operation to be done.
  • When an asset is resized from the annotation editor in VA, the resize bar gets overlapped with the asset, and scroll bar is not shown.
  • After Session Time out, if Refresh is issued in Asset Browser, “Invalid find session” is reported to the user
  • If web-VAB is accessed from the Safari browser, mouse scrolling does not work.
  • When Conflicted assets are delinked with “delink conflicted or locked assets” unchecked, conflicted assets too are delinked
  • “spd” option for import does not work as expected on Linux OS
  • A user with read permissions is allowed to edit metadata of assets through Asset Browser
  • Switch in between multiple tabs in quick succession results in Asset Browser being slow and a blank screen appears
  • Commit after resolve shows a wrong error message if another user has taken a lock on the same asset at which commit is tried.
  • Accessing central panel in Asset Browser after idle mode, gives “No searched data found. Please search again.” error message
  • Multiple file selection using the mouse in Check-In dialog is not possible. It has to be enabled through (shift key+files)
  • If a published asset is renamed after publish then it is searchable by a new name.
  • If a hostname is used for the web interface of Asset Browser, then “:Destination: DefaultHTTP” error message is displayed at all the times if the hostname is not defined in DNS

  • While restore petitioning, the message exceeds the “Alert Box”, if the petitioned assets are large in number.
  • If WebApprover role is not assigned to any user while workflow creation – “Internal Server Error” is displayed
  • When an asset is checked out through changelog, it again prompts to select the source path to checkout.
  • Custom Format for download: Conversion from JPEG to TIFF is not supported
  • Linked files are not displayed in the check-in dialog for Premier Pro in Mac when the primary language is set to Spanish.

  • User having no role and not assigned with any project is able to login into the Asset Browser.
  • User’s own Password is visible when the browser is used in developer mode and within fiddler also
  • Conflicted status is shown in Asset Browser UI for an asset but it is not updated on the working copy unless an explicit update is done
  • The status for a file as returned through the command line is not reported correctly for a conflicted working copy
  • The remote status for a conflicted asset is not reported in the correct format
  • While using Regular expression ie.,”{,(,[” in search column its displaying the error message as “The pattern:*(*, is erroneous.”
  • Checkboxes are not properly aligned in the keywords panel if multiple keyword operations are done in one go

Adobe-related issues:

  • Bug filed with Adobe to indicate whether a smart object layer contains a linked file: For PhotoShop, there was a request to add a property to the PhotoShop DOM to indicate whether a smart object layer contains a linked file. There would also be another property in the DOM to access the full file path for the linked file. The bug ID for this enhancement is 3790880.
  • Adobe resolves link paths incorrectly if the machine has some common local path and mounted path, e.g. /Users and /Volumes/Users. Reference: https://forums.adobe.com/thread/959112
  • Currently, tooltips are not supported in Mac by Adobe. Reference: https://github.com/Adobe-CEP/CEP-Resources/wiki/CEP-5-HTML-Extension-Cookbook-for-CC-2014#tooltips
