Release Date: 22 Dec 2014

The 5.2-b8852 is available now for download. This is a major release of the Zoom product comprising of several new features. It includes Linux 64-bit server, Windows 64-bit server, Windows 64-bit client (32 bit Windows clients on are no longer supported) and Mac client builds.

New Features and Enhancements

• New “check-in” interface unifying import / commit / smart-copy introduced. Composite actions like ability to check in linked assets along with a parent file being checked in, or ability to automatically take the user to the newly checked-in versioned file included.
• Support for the enforcement of mandatory metadata tied to all check-in operations added.
• New HTML5 based plugin added for Adobe CC 2014+ Suite, specifically Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, AfterEffects, Premiere Pro. (Limited by Adobe’s pre-release issues; see list of issues for specifics)
• For file formats supporting layers (like Photoshop, AE etc.), extraction of the layer metadata, and display of the details in the Zoom Asset Browser added.
• Ability to do Google-like search for file names, metadata, keywords, revision details without having to set up structured search added.
• Support for dynamically selecting the specific format in which to download previews from Zoom, added Custom format presets can be defined at the server, and be chosen by the end user at the time of downloading.
• Support for automatic ingest from a designated Hot Folder added; parameters such as running a pre-script for the ingest configurable through settings
• Support for visually distinguishing assets with an alpha channel indicator icon in the Asset Browser view (and through command line search / log / getmetadata operations) added.
• Mandatory metadata form in the check-in operations with  provision to link to another metadata property added; the linking will be triggered for specific configured value as specified in the metadata spec file on the server.
• Ability to reorder metadata properties added.
• Client-side properties can now be defined on the server and be pulled / synchronized by all Zoom clients.
• Support added to save structured search query on server, and share with users on other machines included.
• Ability to change default thumbnails of versioned files added. This operation can be performed in bulk during check-ins, and also on a file-to-file basis from the Asset Browser.
• Ability to create file-type filters and be able to search for assets matching these filters added. A default set of pre-defined filters are also made available.
• Support for automatic periodic de-linking of files on the client desktop to conserve space now added.
• Very significant performance benefits achieved in HADR functionality by way of improved network connection handling in the replication module and several more optimizations.
• Ability to create and launch workflow jobs directly from within the Asset Browser by using pre-defined Zoom workflow templates for a given project.
• Configuration to support Zoom server restarts without data check-pointing, ensures server restarts do not cause inadvertent server down-time
• Localization bundle for Spanish
• Advanced Custom File Format feature with a tight integration with the preview mechanism allowing a custom file format rendition to be set as a default preset for a specific set of input file formats
• Ability to launch global search on the Zoom repository from within the Zoom plugins for Adobe CC 2014+ applications
• Zoom mobile apps for both IOS and Android have been upgraded to make them lighter and faster.
• Minor enhancement in password-recovery functionality to pre-empt attempts of sniffing and other security abuses.
• Minor enhancement in archive module Management from the web-based admin console in order to verify the integrity of Zoom archive data.

Major Issues

• Name of a file does not become editable on click in List View of VAB Central Panel
• Automatic Delink of assets happens based on modification time and not last accessed time, since settings to determine the last access times for files were found to severely slow down the machine
• Sort by “Digital Rights Management” of assets in Central Panel is not possible
• Dates shown in command line are not in a human readable format
• Silent uninstall of Zoom is not supported currently
• Silent Installation on windows is possible but before it asks for 2 clicks, system restart too happens without asking the user
• Drag and Drop of assets between different tabs is not supported for now
• Buttons in the Top-Ribbon do not have any indication to know if they are enabled or disabled
• When an assets is moved to a new location , the preview server regenerates its preview instead of just copying the previously generated preview
• Thumbnails do not appear for fla files
• Assigning a folder to a task in workflow will not add the folder files to the task
• When 4-5 keywords are selected in succession, the Asset Browser gets slow and mouse pointer is converted to processing icon for a long time
• When a Static Sub-Collection is created, it will add all of the Parent Items to the sub-collection
• Auto-complete suggestions do not come correctly for filters of system-defined properties i.e File Name, File Type etc
• In Mac, Thumbnail and Preview for pdf file format is not available by default – the lib X11 would have to be installed specifically to make that work
• Asset Browser shows an error message, when user with distribute permissions logs in and default view is set to Browse View
• In Custom File Format Download, conversion of multi page pdf to an image is not supported
• Premiere Pro CC 2014 – Zoom Plugin buttons don’t reload if some action like revert/check-in is done from the plugin
• Mac – Overlay icons are not updated properly according to the current status of the asset
• Sometimes, previews of a pdf don’t appear on click on the asset, instead “Connection Error” is displayed
• In List & Portfolio view in Asset Browser, update of keywords from central panel does not work
• With “Hide empty metadata” in Metadata panel enabled – “Edit Common metadata” from cart displays two times for all the values
• Upload of a singe file larger than 4 GB is not possible through web interface of the Asset Browser. This is primarily because of limitations outside the scope of Zoom.
• Asset Browser search or zm find from command line, on an asset with no comment results in restart of the server
• Sometimes, while previewing a video file, a stack trace error could be generated in the web interface of Asset Browser
• In File Type Filter, default file types do not work. Only newly created file type filters work.
• Internet Explorer is not supported in SSL mode for opening Web Interface of Asset Browser as “Not able to connect to server” error message is displayed repeatedly
• Preview Server Cache Cleanup does not work in 5.2 Builds
• Sometimes search result might have issues where most of the assets are displayed as folders instead of files and corresponding context menu is changed too.
• In a specific scenario, Server can crash if developer designer tries to delete the complete keyword tree from Keyword Panel using Web Interface of Asset Browser
• For Windows Zoom Client, Embed Metadata Operation won’t work if the asset name has spanish characters
• Mandatory Metadata Feature has some issues if different metadata is made mandatory for different projects
• Edit of Optional Metadata assigned to Workflow Jobs is not posssible, as the cursor does not stay in the Optional Metadata text boxes
• Browse Icon for Keywords that is a shortcut for opening Keyword Browse Window for Advanced Search is not available if IPTC Property – Keyword’s label is changed to Spanish to be displayed in the metadata panel
• Randomly, upload of files on the web interface for Asset Browser does not work without throwing any error message
• For Download of preview of any asset to work, Custom File Format for Download corresponding to the file format should be defined in webmin
• On Rename of an asset in Asset Browser, error message “Specified Path Doesn’t Exist” is displayed to the user, this issue comes randomly if the assset name is in English, but is seen consistently if the asset name is in Spanish
• For Zoom Server/Preview Server to work properly on non-english locale machines , LC_ALL parameter should be set properly, for this the zoom and preview server init.d script should have the line “export LC_ALL=$LANG” and LANG should be defined for the user who is going to run the zoom and preview server services
• If the web interface for Asset Browser is used in Safari Browser, the mouse scroll won’t work , other things are supposed to work as expected
• Sometimes, If Apply Metadata is done on multiple assets added to Cart, metadata is updated for some but not for others

Minor Issues

• Asset Browser keyboard shortcut, F2 (Remote Rename) does not work for Mac
• Developer Designer role written using Spanish characters is able to delete the assets.
• In Custom Format for Download through webmin, while making any format as default, complete page is refreshed and navigates to home page.
• If there is a job having 1 task T1 and 2 serial reviews for the same task , first R1, then R2 – T1 status is reported as finished even when R1 is not started
• In Asset Browser, two files differing only in the case (eg. abc.jpg and abc.JPG) are allowed to be created in the same location.
• High Resolution previews for PDF files are not generated in Light Box
• Drag and Drop of Multiple Items into InDesign Selects Last Item only
• In List and Portfolio View of Asset Browser, Column sorting doesn’t work for rating and keywords
• Adobe Drive Will Not Work with Capitalized Usernames
• Inconsistency in name of project, if archive/restore or rename of project is attempted.
• Scrubbing in timeline of video preview does not work
• Delink of a manually unlocked file(from Asset Browser) would not be possible
• If connection between zoom client and zoom server is lost, an error with stack trace is displayed to the client user
• Lock released on a file through Asset Browser is not updated in the working copy
• When asset is resized from annotation editor in VA, the resize bar gets overlapped with the asset and scroll bar is not shown.
• After Session Time out, if Refresh is issued in Asset Browser, “Invalid find session” is reported to the user
• When Conflicted assets are delinked with “delink conflicted or locked assets” unchecked, conflicted assets too are delinked
• “spd” option for import does not work as expected on linux OS
• A user with read permissions is allowed to edit metadata of assets through Asset Browser
• Switch in between multiple tabs in quick succession results in Asset Browser being slow and blank screen appears
• Commit after resolve shows a wrong error message if another user has taken lock on the same asset at which commit is tried.
• Arrow keys do not work in full screen preview.
• Accessing central panel in Asset Browser after idle mode, gives “No searched data found. Please search again.” error message
• If the asset opened for edit in the Adobe Photoshop or any other such app, is locked by some other user – the status is not updated in the top row of the zoom plugin to show that the asset is locked
• Multiple file selection in Check-In dialogue is not possible. It has to be enabled through (shift key+files)
• If a published asset is renamed after publish then it is searchable by new name.
• No “Z” icon shown for Adobe Illustrator CC 2014 Zoom Plugin
• If host name is used for web interface of Asset Browser , then “:Destination: DefaultHTTP” error message is displayed at all the times if the hostname is not defined in dns
• If there are problems in connecting to the server and many actions are done in succession, too many alert boxes pop up to display the same error message
• A superadmin user is able to commit assets without assigning any value in “Mandatory Metadata” in Check-in Panel if the mandatory property has some project list specified
• While restore petitioning, Message exceeds the “Alert Box”, if the petitioned assets are large in number.
• If WebApprover role is not assigned to any user while workflow creation – “Internal Server Error” is displayed
• When an asset is checked out through change log, it again prompts to select the source path to checkout.
• Custom Format for download: Conversion from JPEG to TIFF is not supported
• Linked files are not displayed in the check-in dialog for Premier Pro in Mac, when primary language is set to Spanish.
• PDF preview – small size texts are not displayed properly even in High Preview generation mode
• An eventual check-in of a linked asset that is not in the same parent directory as the parent asset is not allowed
• After reaching maximum number of Search & Browse tabs in Asset Browser, after closing all tabs, sometimes a new tab can not be launched
• List & Portfolio view – Default Hover selection is on the first asset after performing any operation in Asset Browser’s central panel
• For Adobe After Effects, The Evolphin Zoom plugin has to be relaunched in order to work properly
• For Adobe After Effects,The Evolphin Zoom plugin auto-refresh is disabled due to some adobe specific issues
• For Mac OS X Yosemite, Overlay icons(green/red dots) don’t appear sometimes when lock/unlock is issued from the top ribbon , issue resolves on eventual refresh
• File names with non-English characters are not displayed properly in archive / restore email notification and in Asset Browser action string
• Linked Files of an already checked out file are not allowed to be checked out
• Checkout with linked assets (with locks) fails if any linked assets is already locked by someone else
• Issues can be encountered in asset shelf life start/end implementation if client and server are in different time zones
• Validation of Metadata does not happen when edit of metadata is done in Asset Browser
• In Manage Workflow, progress of unsaved jobs is lost if current tab is changed
• Tab key doesn’t work for login window when tried from Asset Browser after it has been left idle for a very long time.
• If between login and logout the projects assigned to a user are changed, the Project list shown to the user is not updated
• User having no role and not assigned with any project is able to login into Asset Browser.
• User’s own Password is visible when browser is used in developer mode and within fiddler also
• Conflicted status shown in Asset Browser UI for an asset but it is not updated on the working copy unless an explicit update is done
• The status for a file as returned through command line is not reported correctly for a conflicted working copy
• The remote status for a conflicted asset is not reported in correct format
• While using Regular expression ie.,”{,(,[” in search column its displaying the error message as “The pattern:*(*, is erroneous.”
• Checkboxes are not properly aligned in keywords panel if multiple keyword operations are done in one go
• Creator of lightbox shown in Visual Approval is incorrect, if it is created from Web interface of Asset Browser
• Change in Zoom Server information in Z-Settings is not reflected in Asset Browser in “Zoom Server Address” Window shown before login until it is relaunched
• Import of assets to Asset Browser’s central panel after session timeout, gives error message
• If user is logged into Adobe Drive from the same system on which the user is logged into Asset Browser – the switch between Drive and Asset Browser asks person to log into Asset Browser again
• ChangeLog Window when open can not be minimized/maximized by clicking on the window icon in the task bar in Windows OS
• On Import and Checkout progress notifications, instead of number of files, “?” is displayed when the machine locale is not English(US)
• On deletion of a keyword from keyword panel, the current position and state of the nodes is reset
• On changing the width of column, values get overlapped in List and Portfolio view of Asset Browser
• Sometimes, The database file “allrepoauthmapskel” could not be locked.The database may be in use” error message appear while using Asset Browser
• When some asset is checked-in for the first time with “convert to working copy” selected , on failure of check-in, the added file in the working copy is not deleted
• Show in Cart – Thumbnail is not displayed completely for the assets where “Change Thumbnail” is enabled
• Visual Aseet Browser logs out on hot folder import if the user doing hot folder import is the same as the one logged into the Asset Browser
• Some characters of a Word in Z icon menu are not translated to Spanish properly
• PDF preview – While editing the page number, place of the number gets rearranged
• Workflow can be launched from Asset Browser for archived assets too, but such tasks cannot be signed into causing a deadend.
• Keyword creation – Last created keyword gets retained if we try to create a new sibling keyword in keyword panel
• Sometimes when a file having multiple layers is checked in more than once – one of the revisions starts showing indicator to expand the layer even though there is nothing to expand
• While creating keyword, if “Tab” is entered from keyboard – Then new keyword cant be created using add keyword “Icon” from keyword panel
• If the server runs out of memory, and web interface of Asset Browser is running , the error message displayed is not user-friendly, and does not point to the problem on the server
• Restore/Reject information mail is not triggered for the user who has requested the petition
• Auto Refresh does not work when keywords are assigned to previous revisions of an asset

Adobe-related issues:

• Bug filed with Adobe to indicate whether a smart object layer contains a linked file: For PhotoShop, there was a request to add a property to the PhotoShop DOM to indicate whether a smart object layer contains a linked file. There would also be another property in the DOM to access the full file path for the linked file. The bug id for this enhancement is 3790880.
• Resize of HTML plugin panels does not work for Illustrator and After Effects.
• On relaunching After Effects, the HTML panel appears blank and has to be reopened.

Zoom 5.0-b7060 is available now. This is a maintenance release of the Zoom product. It includes Linux 64-bit server, Windows 64-bit server, Windows 32-bit client and Mac client builds.

Major Issues

• If from Z settings , “Delink All in WC” option is selected, the next checkout won’t work until the zmclientproxy process is restarted
• When a Saved search is loaded for edit – if it has date range or any other range value – they would not be updated in UI
• Rename of an asset allows deletion of the entire name along with extension and then the asset is saved as “null”
• Keywords assigned to an earlier revision of a file are not reflected on the latest revision
• In IE11, web-based admin console does not load several of the required UI components, therefore IE11 is not recommended for use with Zoom as of now.
• For Overlay Icons to appear properly on Mac, “Reset File Colors” from Z menu needs to be used
• When trying to save metadata properties in central panel the edit cursor moves to some other asset in Asset Browser’s Central Panel
• When 4-5 keywords are selected in succession, the VAB gets slow and mouse pointer is converted to processing icon for a long time
• Auto-complete suggestions don’t come correctly for filters of system-defined properties i.e File Name, File Type etc
• In-place rename of a File in List View is not possible
• When Adobe Drive is installed it causes Windows Explorer to crash – independent of Zoom
• User’s own Password is visible when browser is used in developer mode and within fiddler also
• Lightbox when created through web asset browser , Creator of lightbox in Visual Approval is not reported correctly
• WebVAB is supposed to work only with IP address/server name in the address and won’t work with localhost as value for the server address in http url
• For Video Previews to work for Zoom on Windows Server, the java.io.tmp location needs to be changed to some writable folder in wrapper.conf file to enable ffmpeg to write the video files
• “Matches Exactly” in search does not work sometimes

Minor Issues

• Keywords in keyword-panel are sometimes not properly aligned after multiple Drag & Drops
• For Assets that don’t have default application to open set on the OS, “Edit” on right click on checked out asset does not work.
• Keyboard’s left and right arrow keys do not work for navigation through previews of assets in full screen mode
• Complete value for metadata property is not shown on double click on it if the value is too long
• Rejection of a review from VA sends an ambiguous message “EMPTY_REJECTED_FILE_LIST.html” in the mail
• If 2 values are given to a metadata property, one very long and one short, only the short one is shown to the user through metadata panel
• When multiple values are added to a metadata property in metadata panel, editing is only allowed from middle as cursor appears only there not at the end of the line
• Pinned task manager in Windows opens settings on click
• For VAB Browser, Save to folder and Export of metadata options are not disabled though wont work
• Refresh for Z icon in notification tray is disabled if “Disable Alerts” is selected
• For users that were added to a newly created administrator role and then the role was deleted, the users are able to delete keywords irrespective of the current roles assigned to them
• Modifying the list of invalid characters in Repository Settings makes the Linux server to behave abnormally sometimes
• Filter/Search on file type is still based on name not on file extensions
• Delink of a checked out and locked file does not release the lock for that file
• No option to launch VAB in task manager
• Logout from Z settings does not initiate logout from VAB
• If VAB with Search Tab open is left idle for a long time, and then clicked, the search tab throws and error pop-up with message “no search criteria specified”
• Project name is case sensitive for commands issued from command line
• For a task in a job in workflow designer, select approved assets from previous tasks does not work
• For Search/Browse View, if central panel is empty (for eg. inside an empty folder), right click does not happen
• The “Open file in native format” icon is still not removed from VAB Browser though it is not supported
• For “Show Deleted” enabled search result view, addition of asset in an empty folder throws an error pop-up without any message
• Auto refresh on path navigator does not work when an asset is added/deleted in favorites panel
• Multiple switches between different assets in favourites panel in quick succession sometimes leads to the asset clicked not being shown in the central panel
• Rename of project name leads to inconsistent behavior with respect to project name in browse view and search view
• Archive and restore of a project from webmin , changes the display of project name in VAB to “Not Set”
• Two instances of the same window are opened if a button on the plugin is clicked twice in succession
• Error Messages for Adobe CS6 plugins do not fit very well in the plugin window size
• Keyboard shortcut for logout is ctrl+shift+x instead of ctrl+shift+q
• In Plugin for Adobe CS6, the button to launch task manager is still being shown as workflow
• On import of a long named file, the file name exceeds the import progress window
• For wrong values entered in asset shelf life start /end error is not thrown on UI but only fails in fetching results for search
• For login of different users on the same client machine, the favorites are not maintained
• Switch between multiple projects in path navigator does not reset the screen selection of assets
• Search for a very lengthy metadata property through Advanced search fails
• In an empty collection, operations not supported in the UI are not disabled
• If asset name is too long, then star icon for favourite overlaps with the asset name in “Path Navigator”
• Edit of metadata properties from metadata panel does not show the edited properties until manual refresh is done
• If at a time more than 15 tabs are opened in VAB, collection panel is not shown to the user
• If a workflow is created for a user who has not been assigned roles/permissions in zoom, task manager sign in shows a weird message
• The changelog for server shows wrong time stamps sometimes if the timezone for the server and client are different
• Update from VAB of a checked out asset whose working copy was deleted from disk throws an error pop-up with an icon but no message
• When 2 users login at the same time from 2 different places – error message shown to user is ambiguous
• Keyboard up/down keys work in metadata panel but the view does not the change according to the selection
• Deselect of a text box does not happen if space outside it is clicked
• Right click on a new job in workflow designer, sometimes does not work on first click – multiple clicks are needed
• For Mac, the right click context menu for a Working copy still shows Visual Log as an option which is not supported now
• Owner for creation of collection does not have dropdown
• Forward using navigation bar for audio files does not work
• After import of an asset through drag and drop, that asset is not shown as selected
• No difference in display of icons in top-ribbon even when they are enabled/disabled
• Sometimes, when edit is clicked on a checked out asset, the asset opens in the background
• The drop down menus for some UI elements have the same color as the background of VAB
• Show URL option is not disabled in a collection tab, when multiple assets are selected
• User is not able to search for assets through miscellaneous properties in metadata panel
• Sometimes, when there are too many assets added to the cart, one by one deletion of assets from cart leaves behind an extra delete icon for an already removed asset
• If in keyword panel, metadata, collection panel, a long value is entered to be searched, the value overlaps with the search icon
• For re-size of a preview in full screen mode, the preview moves towards the top and does not remain centered
• Sometimes, deleted assets are shown in the Search view even when the “Show deleted” option is not enabled
• On Mac client, the zoom client kept in doc is available even after uninstall
• Even when the hierarchy of children keywords in keyword panel exceeds the width of the keyword panel, no horizontal scroll bar is provided
• In web-based admin console, users lists do not appear sorted; there is no provision to search based on users either
• Elements in the list shown for quick search are not navigable through keyboard up/down keys
• “Ctrl+Shift+O” on a file opens the file, but it does not come up in front on screen after opening
• Compare View opens up even for assets whose preview cant be generated
• Space too is considered as a character and is searched for through Quick Search
• No option in compare view for an asset, to drag to the desired position for zoom in
• When VA is opened in browser, the cursor is not placed in the username textbox by default
• For quick search, if text entered exceeds the length of the search box, the cross icon overlaps with the text
• The path shown in “export to folder” text box for export metadata does not match with the folder it actually points to
• Error is not thrown if addition of deleted asset is attempted in cart
• In import of users from command line, there is no check to validate email formats
• If rename of a file from collections is tried it shows the “The specified path, “/defproj/waipio-31_l.jpg”, does not exist or has been deleted.” error message But the file gets renamed
• Web Management Console>Team workflow>Manage workflow–>If we are not working on workflow designer for long time(20-30 min), It shows an error message like “Error Id:401 Unauthorized” and not “Session expired”
• No help commands available for getcredentials, logout
• For Web Management Console, browse option not provided to set archive location
• Previews generated in the Revision Panel have left and right arrows for navigation, but navigation does not happen
• In VAB Browser, thumbnails not provided for audio files
• Even if “show deleted” is not enabled, a folder is shown as deleted soon after in deletion in VAB
• When no collections exists or are not visible to the user, the option “Add to Colleciton” for cart is not disabled
• Tooltip for a keyword is displaying over itself, of no use
• In VAB while sorting the assets using MD properties, there are duplicate entries.
• Preview for indd files are too small in size
• If on a folder “Add to Cart” is performed, the “cart” icon on the folder is not removed
• When download of an asset through VAB is attempted for first time , the folder for save goes to windows wow64 folder by default in windows which is an OS specific folder
• When in the keyword panel, creation of duplicate keyword is attempted – error is thrown, but still the keyword is shown as added

4.1-b6026 is available now. This is primarily a bug-fixes release and includes Windows 64-bit server, Windows 32-bit client and Mac client builds.

Release Date: 25 Jan 2011

1. Zoom Asset Browser (VAB) asks for the Zoom repository URL every time. The URL (http://<zoom server host>:<zoom server port> e.g. http://server:8880) needs to be specified every time VAB is started.
2. Importing files using the Finder/Explorer/Adobe plugin Zoom import dialog works but the file(s) are imported at the root location instead of the selected destination path. Workaround is to use drag-n-drop to import the files or move the files in Zoom repository application.
3. Repository browser does not allow multiple items to be moved, only a single file or folder can be moved at a time. Workaround is to schedule the move or rename using the Zoom move/rename context menu in Finder/Windows Explorer and then commit the parent folder. This will commit all scheduled moves to the server at once.
4. Repository browser does not display thumbnails – thumbnails are enabled only in the VAB. Use the VAB to visually browse files.
5. Zoom dialogs do not doc in the Mac OSX docking area correctly. After docking if you click on the application icon it generates an error instead of launching correctly. Please use the Mac OSX menu bar context menu or Finder context menu to launch Zoom dialogs.
6. Folder coloring is not supported with Mac OSX Finder. Overlay icons currently only work on Windows.
