VideoFX 2.0 in action

Once all the setup for VideoFX 2.0 (Zoom 7.3+) is complete as described here, we are ready to see VideoFX 2.0 flow in action. A typical VideoFX 2.0 flow starts from the source file on the Client machine and ends on the low-res proxy checked-in to the Zoom MAM Server. Check here to see the diagrammatic flow.

Check the flow with a valid high-res file. Follow these steps as a guideline:

  1. Get a valid high-res file for checking-in on a VideoFX enabled Zoom Client. Drop the file into the Asset Browser.
  2. Set the desired values and click Check-In.
  3. The check-in dialog will be shown where you can choose the ingest settings for each file and set the metadata properties.

These options are available for high-res files:

Copy On Ingest: This is the default option, the high-res video file is copied to the configured SAN/NAS third-party mount point by the desktop check-in app. After the copy, the Transcoder can create a low-res proxy for the video file.

In-Place Ingest: If the high-res video file is already inside a third-party mount folder underneath a valid Zoom Project vault sub-folder, this option can be used to avoid copying the high-res video and trigger a transcoding process for creating the low-res proxy.

Set the desired values and click Check-In.

  4. Successive messages are shown while sending the files.

If the VideoFX flow cannot proceed due to any errors then an appropriate message is shown.

  5. A message for import complete is shown to the user. Click OK.

  6. The placeholder file is checked-in for this high-res asset.

  7. The icon  below the asset name shows that this is a high-res asset.
  8. The low-res proxy is generated and checked-in after a while.

  9. The metadata shows information about high-res (native) file.

  10. Information about low-res proxy is also shown.

  11. When the pro-res is generated then information about pro-res is also updated.

  12. Check that the proxy flag is true.

Track the transcoding jobs using the Web Management Console on the Zoom Server. Log in to the Web Management Console as an admin. Open Transcoding Monitor from under the Track & Control node under the Process Dashboard node in the Admin Menu sidebar. All transcoding jobs are displayed graphically. Select filters to narrow down your search.

Click on any box displaying the number of running, failed, completed, submitted or other jobs to open the Jobs page showing jobs filtered as per that criteria. For example, click on the Failed Jobs box to view Jobs page showing failed jobs.

Alternatively, to view the transcoding processes in detail, open Jobs page in the Track & Control node under Process Dashboard node in the Admin Menu sidebar. All transcoding processes will be listed here. Select appropriate filters to narrow the search.
