Upgrading to Zoom Server 4.x (Linux)

Different installations may have items stored in different locations based on different Linux flavors. These instructions may not match precisely all Linux environments Zoom is installed in. Please use these instructions as the basis and adapt to your unique environment.

The following instructions describe how to upgrade a Zoom Server installed on RedHat Enterprise Linux or CentOS. These instructions assume you have downloaded the zoom-unix64.tar.bz2 from the Zoom Support Center.

Upgrade Manually

  1. Shutdown the Zoom Server and Zoom Preview Server services.
For information on how to start and stop services for a Windows Server, see Starting and Stopping Zoom Services (Linux)
  2. Copy or backup the [ZoomDir]/conf/ and [ZoomDir]/db folder.
If your db is not installed in this location, you do not need to back up this folder.
  3. Delete the [ZOOM_INSTALL_DIR] folder.
  4. Unzip the zoom-unix64.tar.bz2 downloaded from the Zoom Support Center.

For servers using 4.0b5877 and greater:

  1. Replace the conf folder with the conf folder from your backup.
  2. Start the Zoom Server and Zoom Preview Server services.

For servers using 4.0b5877 and before:

  1. Navigate to the new [ZOOM_INSTALL_DIR]. Make sure it is in the same location you had the previous install.
  2. Copy and replace the server.xml and metadataspec file and folder from the conf folder you backed up prior to installing.
  3. Open the wrapper.conf from your backup and the wrapper.conf stored in the new installation.
  4. For configurations, such as heap size and memory, replace the values from your old installation into the new wrapper.conf file.
  5. Open the preview-server.conf from your backup and the preview-server.conf stored in the new installation.
  6. For configurations, such as heap size and memory, replace the values from your old installation into the new preview-server.conf file.
  7. Copy the zoom.key file from your backup to your new installation.
  8. Start the Zoom Server and Zoom Preview Server services.

Upgrade Using Script

You can also use the upgrade perl script from our support site. You may have to customize it to work with your environment.
