Metadata Editor In Zoom Server

In Zoom 6.0 and above, Zoom administrators can modify / import / export the system-wide metadata schema (controlled by the metadataspec.xml present in the installation’s conf/ folder) from within the web-based Admin portal’s System menu.

You can see the three tables – table for groups, it’s corresponding fields and xmp supported formats in this panel.

Panel Contents

  1. XMP-Supported Formats Table: All the xmp-supported file formats are displayed here.

    1. Add – To add new file format in the format table.
    2. Delete – To delete multiple selected formats from the table.
  2. Metadata Groups Table: All the groups that are part of the metadata schema, are displayed here.

    1. Code – The first column displaying the group code having exactly 4 uppercase alphanumeric letters.
    2. Label – Second column displays the label of the group as displayed in the Visual Asset Browser.
    3. Editable – Third column displays whether this group will be editable in the Asset Browser.
    4. Appendable – Fourth column shows whether the users can add new properties into the group from the Asset Browser.
    5. Default – Fifth column which is hidden by default determines whether uncategorized fields will be added to the selected metadata group..


    1. Add – To add new group to the metadata schema.
    2. Edit – To edit only single selected group from the table.
    3. Delete – To delete multiple selected groups from the table.
  3. Metadata Group Fields Table: All the metadataspec fields from the selected group in the groups table are displayed here.

    Parameters :

      1. Name – The first column displays name of the field which is unique for each field in a specific group.
      2. Namespace – Second column displays the namespace to which the field belongs.
      3. Label – Third column displays the name which is shown for that field in the Asset Browser.
      4. Key Type – Fourth column shows the data type to be given to the key of the values available for that field. By default it is taken as string.
      5. Value Type – Fifth column shows the data type to be given to the value of the values available for that field. By default it is taken as string.
      6. Editable Key – Sixth column shows if you want to make a value of the selected field editable in the Asset Browser.
      7. Multiline – Seventh column shows whether you want to make the value type of field to be multi-line or single line.
      8. Allow Multiple – this shows whether multiple values are allowed for that field or not.
      9. Projects – Ninth column shows projects tag of the selected field.
      10. Roles – This column shows the roles tag of  the selected field.
      11. Type – This column shows whether the field should be mandatory or optional or none.

    There are other columns also for the other tags available in the fields of metadata spec.


    1. Add – To add new field in the selected group of metadata xml.
    2. Edit – To edit either single or multiple fields of selected group. In editing there is also some special parameters available for some columns using Shift+Edit.
    3. Delete – To delete multiple selected fields from the above selected groups from metadata xml.
  4. Top Section: The top ribbon contains some buttons for performing actions on the whole metadataspec.
    1. Save Metadata : To save metadata with two options as :
      Saving Metadata Xml in the configuration folder.

       In this, to save and restart click “Yes”, for saving and restarting later click “No” and for not saving click “Cancel”.

    2. Reset : To reset the metadata spec with the already available metadata from metadataspec xml.
    3. Import From XML : To import metadata from any valid metadata file from the user’s system.
      Import Metadata Xml from the user’s system.

    4. Export To Xml :  To download the metadata xml from the configuration folder of the zoom server.


      Export/ Download the current metadata configuration file from zoom server.
    5. Restart Server : To manually restart zoom server after making changes in the metadataspec xml.
    6. Help : In the right hand corner, there’s another button “Help” to show instructions while editing the metadata configuration.
